As of Saturday 25thJune 2011 the Red Lion Hernhill will be managed by Ben Edwards, the current chef. Ben will continue his role as head chef, but will also be responsible for the overall day to day running of the pub:
“I feel that since I have been head chef here at the Red Lion, I have been unable to put forward my ideas for improving both the pub and the restaurant. I feel that the pub has suffered over the last few years and my aim is to get the pub and restaurant back being busy and serving the local community.”
Immediate changes will include the menu prices:
“It is very important to know your restaurant and also your clients. Some of our prices have crept up over the last few years, and I feel that some of the dishes are too expensive. My initial aim is to get our standard menu prices back nearer to the £10 mark, which reflects good quality food with value for money.”
Unrestricted by previous management, Ben is also aiming to expand the specials menu with more exotic and challenging dishes:
“As a chef, I am always trying to create new dishes and flavours. Keep an eye on the upcoming specials for some new challenges. We also plan to extend our range of feature evenings to more than just steak nights – perhaps once a month a theme based evening menu (Chinese/Indian/Italian etc)”
As we all know, village pubs are closing down at an alarming rate and it is down to us to ensure that this does not happen in our local villages. Ben has seen the problems formed over the past few years but has until now been unable to rectify them.
“I am looking forward to encouraging more people to visit the Red Lion. I am planning to get live music and bbq events in the garden, with an outside bar so that customers don’t have to keep coming in and out of the pub”
Now, having grasped the opportunity, Ben wants to give us back the pub that we always had. Great food at reasonable prices, a warm welcome, quality draught beers & lagers, but, more importantly, enthusiasm to encourage us all back for more.
We look forward to welcoming you to the New Red Lion, Hernhill! |
